Hierachy - Making your dogs feel comfortable

Dogs in the wild have a clearly defined hierachy. Alpha male/Alpha bitch and then every one else down the line. Dogs that cannot fit into the hierachy are generally eliminated from the pack. When working with your dog, it is important to remember that you are not only the alpha but you also are beyond the pack. Givening dogs a deep firm correction is a tremendously reassuring thing for a dog. He know that you will keep him safe and will protect him. After the correction for a misbehavior, it's important to remember to praise the dog to let him know everything is all right. Firm deep corrections coupled with praise are the best way to reassure a dog and get what you want from him.
